The legendary Czech photographer Josef Koudelka (born in Boskovice in 1938) is one of the most significant photographers of the 20th century. He gained recognition for his photographs of the military invasion into Czechoslovakia in August 1968, which to this day still provoke emotional reactions, but also for photographic studies such as Gypsies or Exiles. His work continues to flourish in the new millennium as well. In 2008, 40 years after creating the iconic depictions of the invasion of Soviet and other allied troops into Prague, the seventy-year-old photographer comes to the Holy Land. It is the second time that the world-renowned artist captures armed conflict, this time in Israel and Palestine. The film Koudelka Shooting Holy Land is an intimate and once-in-a-lifetime testimony of the photographer‘s creative process, which was shot by his Israeli assistant Gilad Baram over the course of five long years.
